Basalt pillows in the Lower Basalt succession in Sødalen, around
7 km to the west of the Skaergaard intrusion. The base of the Lower Basalts
display signs of having formed in a marine environment. Note the partly
preserved shrinkage cavity in the centre of the pillow, the radial fracturing,
and the darkening of the lava towards the margin of the pillow (indicative
