Basalt pillows in the Lower Basalt succession in Sødalen, around 7 km to the west of the Skaergaard intrusion. The base of the Lower Basalts display signs of having formed in a marine environment. Note the partly preserved shrinkage cavity in the centre of the pillow, the radial fracturing, and the darkening of the lava towards the margin of the pillow (indicative of a chilled margin).
